Thank you for your interest in D.A.W.G.
This site is provided to help bring awareness to the homeless animals of Denison, Texas so that they may find loving and deserving homes. The City of Denison does not have a "shelter." The City operates an impound facility via a private contractor.
The Denison Animal Welfare Group is a collection of volunteers dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of pets in need, education, and access to low-cost spay/neuter / vaccination programs.
The DAWG currently receives NO FUNDING from any local, state or federal sources.
We rely on donations from caring, compassionate people and businesses.
We also seek and apply for grants.
We have no paid staff.
Our animals are cared for by volunteers.
We cannot accept owner-surrendered animals at our facility. Animals in our facility must come from the Denison City Pound.
We are located in Denison, Texas and serve the Texoma area. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 2014.

To see animals on "stray-hold," please look at the Stray-Hold page.
The City of Denison requires animals be held 72 hours from intake before they become eligible for adoption or euthanasia. Owners wishing to claim their animals must go to the City Pound, 2500 W. Morton St., and pay the applicable fine. Go in person—do not rely on phone call to see if your animal is there!
DAWG Hurricane Harvey Flood Relief Event, Saturday 9-2-17
Update: Thanks to the generosity of everyone, our DAWG volunteers took a fully loaded trailer and cash donations of a little over $2000 to south Texas on Sunday morning, 9-3.
DAWG volunteers will be collecting donations for Hurricane Harvey flood victims on Saturday, 9-2, from 7 am to 7 pm at the DAWG House, 3307 S Eisenhower Pkwy. By far the most needed item is cash. This is because agencies are running out of room to store all the items generously donated to date and cash allows them to purchase exactly what is needed including gas for their transport vehicles. Cash donations can be made through the DAWG website donation buttons -- please note that the donation is for Hurricane Harvey relief. Cash donations can also be dropped off at the DAWG House. 100% of the cash donations to DAWG for hurricane relief will be forwarded to the agencies interacting with DAWG in flood relief and animal transport efforts.
Acceptable items to donate include: paper towels, bleach, puppy pads, disinfectant wipes, laundry detergent, trash bags, gloves, insect repellant, new or gently used collars and leashes, cases of bottled water. DAWG volunteers will be delivering donated items to the agencies supporting relief efforts.
DAWG had many cash donations for Hurricane Harvey relief. All the cash was hand-delivered by our volunteers to the agencies working relief efforts. There are too many individuals to name, and we appreciate you all!!
We do want to specially thank the Arnell Memorial Humane Society of Amery, WI. Not only do they work with DAWG in accepting Texas dogs via transports, they sent DAWG a generous financial contribution for the relief efforts.
Special thanks also to the Chippewa Humane Society of Chippewa Falls, WI. They, too, work with DAWG and accept Texas dogs via our transport program. They sent us a very nice contribution to assist with the transport of Hurricane evacuee dogs (dogs already in shelters prior to the hurricane that are being moved out to make room for more).
So many folks are desperate to help the animals affected by Hurricane Harvey, & our hearts are broken by the images of stranded animals and owners.
DAWG would encourage anyone who has a heart for these poor animals to make a financial contribution to the organizations on the ground in the area with their assets, such as the HSUS, ASPCA, SPCA of Dallas, Austin Pets Alive, or HART, Houston Animal Rescue Team. All of these are outstanding charities and doing their best to save lives. Here are some links to donate:
Additionally, DAWG is taking in foster dogs from South Texas and helping to coordinate transport of dogs to northern shelters that have graciously offered to take them. These are dogs that were already in shelters that faced the prospect of euthanasia in order to make room for the flood dogs. Through everyone's willingness to help many, many lives are being saved daily.
DAWG is excited to announce our "Actively Seeking Love" adoption program made possible by a grant from Athletes for Animals. This program is designed to enable individuals and families who thought they could never afford a dog the chance to adopt a dog including everything needed to get started in caring for a dog -- how does it work? You will trade volunteer hours for the dog and supplies.
Please see the Adopt page for complete details.
